As a nation, we are about to embark on a pivotal time in the automotive World as consumers start to take delivery of the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf. Both of these vehicles are unique to the market and while they may not be the final solution, they are a critical step towards the ultimate goal of achieving less reliance on gasoline.
Having driven the Volt and the Leaf extensively, it is quite apparent that both companies are filled with excitement and optimism. They know they have something special and that this is just the beginning of a long journey towards redefining America's transportation needs.
However, with change comes skepticism, and I have been hearing some of the critics. To them I say sit back, relax, and observe as the evolving and intelligent American consumer takes ownership of this technology and embraces it with open arms. We have been living with battery dependence and range anxiety for everything from our cell phones to our laptops. The automobile is simply the next battery-operated productivity tool in our home, and in no time we'll be plugging in and looking astonished and those who are still filling up at the pump.
Remember this time in our history and how it forever changed what we drive and how we drive. And expect to see more electric vehicles as there are over 30 models anticipated in the next three years.
